The gel wax can hold up to 6% fragrance oil, however, not all fragrance oils are compatible with jelly wax so be sure to test them first. The scents recommended for gel wax have a flash point above 77°C. Using fragrances with a flashpoint below 77°C will lower the flash point of the wax and can lead to the wax igniting, therefore, it is advised not using fragrances with a flashpoint below 77°C. Always ensuring when testing your gel wax candles it is in a controlled and safe environment.
The gel wax has a melting point between 75°C-85°C and hand pouring temperature between 100-130°C. Unlike other waxes which liquefy as they melt, jelly wax slowly thins so be sure not to increase the heat to speed up the process as the wax is combustible.
Always use a double boiler to heat wax. Do not let the double boiler run dry. Never leave melted wax unattended. Always use a thermometer and never overheat wax as it can spontaneously combust if it reaches its flashpoint of 227°C. Use potholders/oven gloves when handling hot pots or containers to avoid burning yourself. Only pour wax into a stable, undamaged, heat resistant container.
